Pogsley the kitten is getting big!

Posted by admin under Home, Kittens

Maybe they will listen to me nowIt’s been a few days since I posted anything about Pugsley.  She is getting big.  Almost doubled in size since she arrived at the house.  She is full of thunder and lot a energy.  Her one and only play toy is a crumpled up piece of yellow paper, “you can forget the rest” Pugsley tells me.  She can play with it for hours.  I have been getting some video of this and will be putting it up in a few days.  Until them I have two new pictures of Pugs sitting on top of my desk chair.  She likes being on top of the world.

That all for now.

I\'m on top of the world

Why You Should Get A Cat Scratching Post For Your Cat

Why You Should Get A Cat Scratching Post For Your Cat

by Paulina Jenkins

If you own a cat then a cat scratching post is a MUST. It is
very useful in stopping your cat from scratching and ruining
your furniture, drapes and rugs. It is a natural act of all
cats to scratch, stretch and to knead with their front
paws.

Providing their cats with the right products to satisfy the
need to scratch is not something that many cat owners know
they should do. Instinctual behavior can’t be changed so the
best thing to do is provide an acceptable object for the cat
to scratch. Every comprehensive cat care regimen should
include a scratching post to meet the cat’s need to scratch,
stretch, clean and sharpen the claws and mark his
territory.

A quality cat scratching post should have a solid base and a
heavy duty carpet covered post that serves as the scratching
surface. All exposed surfaces are covered in woven materials
such as carpet. A scratching post can be vertical or
horizontal on the floor or slanting at an angle. It is
important that the whole frame and structure must be sturdy
and stable so it does fall over when the cat does its
scratching on it.

Cat scratching posts come in many designs, heights,
materials and colors. Some even have toys hanging from them
to give the cats some exercises. There is one type of
scratching post that has corrugated cardboard strips slotted
into the body of the frame or structure to serve as
scratching surfaces.

The cat will soon have the cardboard strips torn and
shredded and the strips have to be replaced. A very common
type of cat scratching post is one that has a vertical
scratching surface on a post with a base. Some cats like
such posts, could be because they are like trees or tree
trunks. Very often such vertical scratching surfaces are
wrapped in a tough fabric like carpet or rope for the cat to
scratch on.

Making your own cat scratching post is easy. You cover a
piece of wood about the size of 6 inches wide and 2 feet
long with carpet and screw it onto the wall. You can also
make a hanging cat scratching post. Just hang a piece of 17
inches long carpet from the ceiling to a height that your
pet can scratch on. A cat tree can serve as a cat scratching
post provided that the base of the cat tree is strong and
large enough so the structure will not fall over.

The best type of material to use for a scratching post is
any durable fabric with a pile, like carpet. The post itself
can be made of solid wood or plastic. The under side of the
base is usually sisal or vinyl with nylon buttons to keep
the scratching post from sliding around on a hard surfaced
floor such as hardwood or tile. Sisal is also a good option
for wrapping the scratching post as cats enjoy the
coarseness of the fibrous rope and it is very durable. It is
great for conditioning the cat’s claws.

Finding a scratching post that meets your cat’s need and
preferences is easy with the variety of styles and sizes
available. Your cat will leave your furniture undamaged with
his own scratching post placed in a nice sunny window or
corner free from drafts. For cats that are already
scratching up the furniture, placing the scratching post in
the same spot will soon have the cat scratching on the post
instead.

Is The Persian Cat For You?

by Paulina Jenkins

The Persian cat is one of the world’s most beautiful cat
breeds. It is generally believed to be one of the most
ancient breeds. It is believed to have its origin in the
Iranian plateau the large region between the Mesopotamia and
the Hindu Kush mountains. This area was called Persia and
thus the name “Persian cat”. When you own a Persian cat it
is liken to owning a great piece of work of art.

The Persian cat is known for its long, flowing coat of fur.
These cats are available in nearly every color. This
includes solid color, tortoiseshell, tabby, and even blue.
Physical indicators for Persian cats include their round
heads and massively built bodies with a short neck. Their
eyes are large, round, and wide set, and they have small,
rounded ears and short, wide noses.

Persian cats have bodies that are short and broad with short
bushy tails. Their legs are thick and short and their feet
are round and sturdy. A Persian is medium sized and weighs
between eight and fifteen pounds. These cats can have a
lifespan of 15 to 20 years if well look after. They have a
beautiful and melodious voice.

The Persian cat adapts and fits well into any household and
environment. They have a very sweet, gentle and calm
personality. They have short legs so they are not good high
jumpers. Persians are very interactive and very sensitive
to the emotional needs of their owners. Most Persians
prefer quite households and do not like annoying children.
They love their humans and enjoy attention from their
owners.

To keep a Persian cat in good health you have to take
preventive and consistent care. Persians have certain
common health weaknesses. Some of these are cherry eye,
tear duct overflow, seborrhea oleosa, polycystic kidney
disease, entropion, dental malocclusions and nostril
constriction.

It is no easy task owning a Persian cat. Everyday because
of tear staining problem you have to wash and wipe their
faces. In order to maintain their dental health it is
important to give their teeth a gentle brush. Daily
brushing must be done as their coats knot easily. You have
to increase the brushing time during shedding months. If
you have a Persian cat grooming is very important. Every
fortnight you should give your pet a bath.

To keep your Persian cat healthy and happy ensure all
vaccinations including rabies and check ups are up to date.
Do not expose your Persian to toxic plants. Make sure that
none of the household plants or garden plants are harmful to
your feline. Feed your pet only premium cat food which has
all the required nutrients to give your Persian good
health.

There are owners that prefer to have their Persians shaved
and groomed professionally. You can choose to do this
yourself but you will need to get the appropriate supplies
or tools. These are available from the pet stores. Some of
the grooming supplies for your Persian are eye ointment,
hairbrush, nail clipper, wash towels and mild shampoo.

Before you decide to owing a Persian cat you must be aware
it is a lot of work involved. If you are unable to give
your Persian cat the daily required grooming then the
Persian is not for you. The veterinary costs for a Persian
are expensive and necessary. Do not get a Persian if you
cannot afford the expenses. For people who can give the
attention and love the Persian cat will become your best
friend and loyal companion for life.

Pugs the Kitten saids Happy 4th July

Posted by admin under Home, Kittens

Pugs in her new toy boxWant to say a happy 4th of July to everyone. Pugs has been a member of the family for two weeks now. We have been to the Vet and Pugs is just fine. Pugs has so much energy and is so much fun to watch playing with everything and anything. Don’t have to buy any special toys at all. Her current thing is a white sock. She drags it around like a thing she has captured. It so funny watching her drag it. It is longer then she is, so she keeps tripping on it when she walks. Got to get a video of this.

Have been taking some more pictues and a couple of videos and will be putting the video up here next week. So stay turned.

Daily update on the kitten activity

Posted by admin under Home, Kittens

Pugs is a very active kitten.  She like lots of thing.  She runs and runs and runs around. Then drops and sleeps for a while and then start all over again.

This week has been very interesting.  I had friends show up and they came with there dog Sarah.  This is a wonderful dog and the kitten and the dog get along just fine.

The both play with the cat toys and don’t want to kill each other.  Pugs seems to realy like the Sarah a lot.  The funnest thing is seeing Pugs give Sarah a back rub.  This is really something to see.  Would have pictures of this but I never have the camera ready with this happens.

Sleep time for me is not as easy as it used to be.  Pugs just want to play and sleep in my face.  I have been working to train here to sleep at the foot of the bed but right now she is winning.

That all for now.  Later Bob

We visited the Vet today.

Posted by admin under Kittens

Well today we had the visit to the Vet.  It went well.  Pugs doesn’t seem to have any problems with being in the cat carrier.  What I did do it to leave the carrier out for a last few days and let her play in it.

We arrived and I filled out the paper work and went into the exim room.  She got weight and is 3 LB 8 oz.

The Doctor can in and did a the exam.  Pugs did really like this that much, but who does.   Pugs checked out fine.  No stuff that needs to addressed.   They did a blood test for some stuff and it all came back negitive.   Got the kitten wellness kit and will be reading that later today.

We came home and Pugs is just fine and back to being the same kitten, playing and eating.

Later, Bob

It’s been a few years since my last cat passed away and we still miss Tinkerbell.  What a hell raiser it was.  But I digress
